It was been a long time I did not
see him. He always spent his days in Alaska and never came back. I thought he
was so busy and forgot everything in here but I was wrong. My brother loved to
be next to our mom and, I was sure, he would never keep the distance more than
one metre. It looked silly to know my brother’s mom lovers although that was
what I thought everyday when I saw him near with mama. Perhaps, I just worried.
I stepped back to take more space
between us, my brother and me. He was
better with mama right now by telling stories and other things between them
that I did not understand. Otherwise, I never liked to disturb them when they
were together like that—even so close and you might not notice that they were
actually a mother and her son.
My brother, Kaleo—I called him Kak Leo (Kak in Bahasa Indonesia referred to big brother or sister in
English. Calling with it sounded politer than calling with a direct name)—looked
like me in male version. I could say that because everybody did. He had brown-black
short hair—little bit messy, his style, blue ocean eyes—like mine, and asian
majority face. Somehow, we had the same skin tone as mama, so we looked paler
than any Asians. I should be better to say that he more looked like our father.
Unlike us, our father looked more exotic.
How was about mama? You never
believed it! My mother was more than 80th years old but she still
looked so young—almost looked like around my age, 24 years old. She had no
wrinkles on her skin, had strong muscle, and the top was she was never getting
old. Mama had long black straight hair reached her stomach. I never saw her
cutting her hair or never knew she had a plan to make it short. She liked the
way nature grew on her body and she brought it everywhere. That was the natural
beauty inside mama. She was pure and glorious.
I just went to my room to pretend
that I did not see anything weird between
them. I detected that he hugged the back of mama’s neck while she sat on the
sofa and read some recipes in her cooking book. Their ears were touching to
each other and their sight seemed to be the same target—the hologram screen. I
could not get what they talked about, but I was sure that it was about a recipe
mama showed to him. Well, it was a
fun fact that Kaleo liked cooking, mama taught him well until he got more
experienced than me.
Suddenly, something appeared in
my mind. Something brought me into crazy idea about taking a new date. I was
hungry about it, what should I called it… perhaps love. I grew with a perfect family full of happiness. I was so
happy when I was younger, and I realized something when I grew up into young
lady and matured. That was the first time I lost something what I believed it
was mine. That was also I felt my own sadness—not others’.
My parents loved me so much, and
all my siblings too. They always said that I was a miracle for them. My parents,
especially mama, said that my existence completed her life. I heard about her
past with papa, and they got very complicated relationship which was actually also
happening until now. I did not which part they did for love or just a damn job.
That was what I heard and saw. Papa said that he could professionally do his jobs
in every time. I could tell after knowing how fast he could change his
personality—from a father to an overprotective bodyguard. However, he always
showed his father look in front of me rather than any others of his jobs. That was
my miracle upon him. Mama said that I had helped her to make my papa feel like
human—not a tool.
If the story was true, Kaleo
wanted a little sister when he was a little. He imagined to have a young sister
that he could call her a princess—because he wanted to the prince who could protect
the princess. It was adorable for me to think how cute he was. Everything had
changed so fast after that. Kaleo was rumoured dead because papa accidently
killed him and caused my mom so depression about papa. With the terrible story
before my existence, I was the one who changed everything in their lives even
it was for my brother. After Dr Bryant saved his life, papa pushed him to gain
motivation to live. What was it? It was mama and me. He lived for both of us.
My others siblings, Vania and Kevin,
thanked to me because I brought mama’s smile that they had never seen before. They
were twins and the oldest. They had lived with mom for almost twenty years but
they never saw mama’s smile so pure and happy. I did not get it at all, but I believed
that they meant it so much.
What I expected was actually I
could be a miracle for my life.
“Were you jealous back then?” I
knew it was Kaleo who came in my room. He already finished with my mom.
“I just didn’t want to disturb
any moment between—”
“You and me.” He did say something
different what I would say before but I did not care.
He closed my door and walked to
come near me. His blue intense eyes keep staring at me which I avoided to look.
Then he reached my head and kissed my forehead so deeply. I liked the way he
kissed me because I could feel something I needed for now. He caressed my hair
well and I laid my head on his upper arm after he sat next to me. I could feel
his warmth which I liked the most.
“So, what was that?” he asked. He
always knew what I felt.
“I missed him.” I answered.
“That was your decision, Kelly.” He
said, like my brother style to advise me.
“I have you.” I said and kept me
believe in it. “I have papa and mama, the twins…” at least, in the end I sounded
like depression.
“You always feel envy, don’t you?”
I could not say anything now. “After everyone had got their partner to fight
for and…”
“I feel we have a chance.”
